We had the pleasure of working with Lord Robartes' Regiment of Foote in August 2025 for a Regimental C17 Civil War Living History event.
Working with John to organise the event was completely stress-free, and when the regiment members arrived to set up, they were very respectful of the site, self-sufficient, and you could instantly tell that they all thoroughly love what they do. The living history camp set-up was very impressive, and they put in a lot of time and energy to make the camp as authentic as possible.
On the day of the event, all members were engaged with our visitors and staff, and put on some wonderful drill displays, adapting to the audience, and were happy to adjust the timetable to suit the flow of visitors.
John and the entire regiment were extremely friendly, organised and professional.
We look forward to working with the Regiment again next year!
Exciting, fun and interesting are some of the adjectives my class have used to describe their morning spent with Lord John Robartes Regiment of Foote a description I would fully agree with. This was the second visit to our school by the regiment and yet again they delivered a child-friendly interactive experience for our Upper Key Stage 2 pupils. The session was booked to underpin our lessons studying the experiences of soldiers from the Romans to the End of World War Two. We were fortunate enough to have several members of the regiment on-site again this year who are deeply knowledgeable about their areas of speciality. Pupils found the uniforms and weapons ‘realistic’ and ‘extraordinary’. The ability to see what people were wearing 400 years ago and the weapons used really helped develop the students understanding of this period of history. All re-enactors on site were incredibly patient with all our students encouraging and guiding them through sword and pike drills as well as challenging those students with a seemingly natural aptitude for the sword. Our morning ended with a display of musketry which other members of the school were able to witness, and which caused mass amazement among the youngest students in our school. This was an incredible experience for my class to have, and we hope to have the regiment return to our school again in the future.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Lord Robartes’ Regiment on a number of occasions, and their living history displays are always a highlight for our visitors. Their attention to historical detail, engaging demonstrations, and friendly, knowledgeable team bring the past vividly to life.
The camp setup, musket drills, and stirring drum marches through the estate created an atmosphere that transported everyone back in time. They are a wonderful group to work with, and a real asset to any heritage event.
